Match Trivia

This important tie was played at Thornliebank in presence of about 2,000 spectators and resulted in a win for the Rangers by two goals to none. From the well-known abilities of both clubs an excellent game was anticipated. The Thornliebank club has only been about four year in existence but they have made rapid progress and won some good matches. Two seasons ago they were the runners-up in the final tie for the Association Cup and two years in succession they were the holders of the Renfrewshire Cup. The Rangers won toss and elected to play uphill and for the first few minutes had very hard work to defend their posts. Some capital shies at goal were made Campbell at back doing good services for the local team. After some fine passing play the strangers got the ball well up the field and secured a corner kick against kick against Thornliebank. McIntyre centred the ball right at the mouth of the goal where it was inadvertently headed through by Henderson one of the Thornliebank players – first goal to the Rangers ten minutes after play began. The local team now played with more dash and after a smart run down the field secured a corner kick against the strangers. No goal was scored and the leather was gradually worked up the field and some smart skirmishes then took place in front of the local fortress but ended without any result. About fifteen minutes before time was called the ball after a hot skirmish in front of the posts was carried through by the Rangers. Up till the call of time play was principally at the local posts but no further goals were scored.
