Match Trivia

The Rangers paid their first visit to Jamestown on Saturday. The Rangers losing the toss kicked off against a pretty fast breeze. They were immediately the assaulting and several times the home team custodian had to free his charges. The Jamestown however was not to be denied and a combined run transferred the leather to the other end. A fine run was now effected Inglis, Hill and Maitland being conscious and a quick low shot registered number one for the Rangers. This success against the wind was heartily cheered by the spectators. After the kick off a fine run by McIntyre, McCrimmond and McCulloch took place and a corner kick was the result. It was exceedingly well placed and McIntyre with a back heel kick both teams on level terms. About ten minutes before half time a scrimmage took place in front of the stranger’s goal. The goalkeeper was charged and threw the ball out but it was immediately caught by McIntyre and a quick shot was the second goal for Jamestown. Half time was now called. The Home team were first to break away and although a timely kick from Vallance relieved the pressure it was only momentary as it was at once past the strangers lines. The home team never relaxed their effort and were once or twice on the very eve of scoring but Young and Vallance were instantly on the lookout. Just before time a foul occurred about twenty yards in front of the Rangers goal. The ball being carefully placed, McIntyre with a header added another point for Jamestown and at the end of an hour’s play the Rangers had been defeated by three goals to one.
