Match Trivia

These clubs met for the first time on Saturday on the ground of the Rangers Kinning Park, the home team beating the younger club by three goals to none. The strangers winning the toss elected to play to the east goal aided by a fitful and gusty wind. Valance setting the ball rolling for his team, it was at once in front of their opponent’s goal, and before the spectators could realise that the game was begun the Rangers had placed the first goal to their credit. On the ball begin kicked off some beautiful play was shown by both sides; but no further score was made till half time. On change of ends the Rangers with the wind at their backs pressed their opponents hard; but the back play of the strangers was of such high order that in spite of the beautiful combine play of the home team, they only succeeded in scoring other two goals, the match ending with three goals in their favour. For the South Western, Munro and Campbell at the back kicked with great force and precision while Steel at half back played well all through the game. Ewing, Morris and Laughland among their forward each played well and with more attention to combine play they will prove a formidable team for the best to tackle. The combined play of the Rangers on the other hand was excellent. Campbell and Hill on one side and Campbell and McNeil on the other, giving a fine exhibition of the passing game, while the centres were all there when wanted. Vallance at back showing up well and kicking in grand form
