Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park before about 30,000 spectators, and in splendid weather. Celtic kicked off, and at once made for Dickie, but they were brought up by Crawford, and play was transferred to the other end, where McArthur was kept busy defending. After five minutes play Hamilton scored, and the Rangers by beautifully concerted play kept their opponents hemmed in, Campbell scoring a second point from a long shot well out at the corner flag. The Celts were not going in anything like form, and were easily held in check by the opposing halves, who were all very safe. A break away by Bell gave the visitors their chance, and after several ineffectual attempts, McMahon scored, but Hamilton shortly after scored a third point. Halftime – Rangers 3 goals: Celtic 1. The first half had been very fast, and it was not remarkable that both teams showed signs of fatigue, but the Rangers were the fasted, and were soon down on McArthur, but through they could not get. The Celts stuck pluckily to their work, but there was far too much play with the right pair, and Bell was left with little or nothing to do McMahon wandering over the field looking for something to do. Campbell was going very strongly, and several times he gave Storrier the go-by, but McMahon was always able to negotiate his shots. A good pass from Campbell was caught up by Hamilton, and the Rangers stood 4 to 1. Right to the close the game was very stubbornly contested, but the Celts could not penetrate the defence offered them, and a good game ended – Rangers 4: Celtic 1. The money drawn at the gate and stands amounted to £1098
