Match Trivia
Return League fixture played at Ibrox Park before about 5000 spectators. The St Mirren played against the wind in the first half, but they at once commenced to press, and were not long in scoring, Chalmers beating Dickie with a well-placed cross shot. The Rangers could not settle down to their game, so persistent was the attack of their opponents, but once started they took some stopping, and A Smith made the score equal with a shot too close to the upright for Patrick to reach. The Saints again came away, and Orr scored a second goal, after which an unnecessary amount of rough work was indulged in. Shortly before halftime Campbell equalised after he had scored an offside goal. Halftime result – Rangers 2: St Mirren 2. The second half was very hotly contested, the Rangers now having rather more of the play than their opponents, but owing to some rare work by Patrick they were kept out for some time, Campbell latterly finding an opening and putting his side in the lead. Not many minutes there after the referee seeing Bruce and Campbell evidently tripping each other, ordered them both off the field, a proceeding which did not tend to pacify the crowd, which was already in a highly excited state. With ten men a-side play still ruled fast, and the Saints again had the ball in the net, but offside was given and the point disallowed. Result – Rangers 3: St Mirren 2.
