Match Trivia

These teams played their return match at Hampden Park last night. There were a reasonable number of spectators. Both clubs were pretty well represented. From the kick off, both sides played with determination, and the Rangers from a cornet kick scored the first goal amidst loud applause, McKenzie heading the ball through. Both sides made frequent runs but due to the defence of the backs, neither of the goalkeepers had difficult work to perform. Ultimately the ‘light blues’ began to press their opponents back and two shots from the right necessitated Gillespie to do his up most to save is charge. The Rangers secured a corner, but Watt made a fine run, only to be stopped when near the goal. At the call of halftime the score remained unaltered. Shortly afterwards the Rangers secured a corner, but nothing came of it. After some give and take play, the Queen’s Park gained a corner but the ball was not well placed, and Campbell kicked over the goal. From a foul Gow placed the ball in the best position, but it was headed out. Both sides now played practically, but no further scoring took place. It must be added that towards the close the Queen’s had ‘ hard lines’ having several times narrowly escaped from scoring. The Rangers won by one goal to nothing thus reversing the defeat they sustained in the beginning of the season. The stranger’s forwards played a good reliable game, as also did their backs and halfbacks. The Queen’s forwards slightly lacked combination although Watt, Allan and Harrower played in magnificent style. Arnott and Watson at back showed good form
