Match Trivia
These teams met at Preston yesterday before 6,000 spectators. In the first half the North End had the advantage of the ground and wind and soon won several corners, but they were rendered futile by the admirable back play of the Rangers with the right wing especially showed excellent play. Eventually however the North Enders by splendid tactics closed in on Chalmers who was defeated by a shot from Dewhurst after twenty four minutes play. Elated by this success the home team became aggressive and McHardy and Cherrie had much to do. Three other corners were conceded to the home team from the last of which Gordon headed a second goal. Keeping up the attack Thomson scored a third goal ten minutes before the interval, which thus ended with the score three goals to none in favour of North End. With the ground and wind in their favour the Rangers in the second half gave a far better account of themselves. After an attack by North End in which Chalmers had to save the visitors forwards showed fine passing and dodging When Peacock passed to Gossland who scored after 27 minutes play. The game was keenly contested to the finish but it ended North End 3 Rangers 1
