Match Trivia

On Friday the Rangers tackled Darwen at Barley Park. These two clubs have always been on the best of terms, and we understand that there is some probability of them meeting in Glasgow before the season is done. The visitors kicked off against a stiff breeze. The home forwards were soon busy at the Rangers goal. Shorrock, Kenyon and Richmond showed up well and a corner fell to their lot, but was kicked out. Another corner followed but was again unproductive. The Rangers made a journey to the Darwen citadel and very nearly scored the ball going over the bar. The Darwen forwards were again to the fore and tried hard to score but no opening could be made on account of the good back play and goalkeeping. Up to this time Darwen had all the best of the play but the Rangers forwards dashed towards the Darwen goal and Peacock scored. The home team were rather nettled by this performance. Richmond made a splendid run down the centre and when tackled passed to Marshall who scored for Darwen. On crossing over the Rangers with the wind in their favour were soon busy at the Darwen goal. After a corner the Darwen forwards went off towards the visitors stronghold and Shorrock made a shot, which went right into Chalmers hands. The visitors again went to the fore, Gossland, Peacock and Pringle especially shinning and the Darwen colours were lowered again for the second time by Cook. They could not be held back, and three more goals fell to their credit winning by five goals to one. The ground was iron bound and was the cause of frequent falls and loose shooting.
