Match Trivia

Played at Kelvin Bridge, the ground of the Caledonian, and resulted in favour of the Rangers by five goals (and one disputed) to one. The Rangers won the toss and chose to play towards the low goal. The Caledonian kicked off, and followed up with great pluck, and for the first twenty-five minutes played a very determined game, and gave their opponents plenty of work to do – their weight helping them greatly in the scrimmages. The Rangers began now to warm to their work. Although the ground was in a very slippery condition they managed to score three times in the first half. After change of ends the Rangers had some splendid runs especially one by D Hill the whole length of the field, which resulted in the fourth goal being taken. Other two followed, but one being fouled before going through was disallowed. In the last two minutes the Caledonian came away in grand style and after a very exciting piece of play the ball was sent through by Allan, who played a splendid game through out, as also did Cochrane, Rowan and Melles. The Rangers wanted the able services of their captain (T Vallance) and J Watson, forward, whose places were creditable, filled by R Kerr and John Campbell
