Match Trivia
These teams met on Saturday at Underwood Park, Paisley, before a large crowd of spectators. The Rangers kicked off, and at once laid siege to the Abercorn goal, with the result that within five minutes from the start McPherson scored the first for them, in the midst of a scrimmage. To the surprise of the crowd however scarcely two minutes later Walker of the Abercorn initiated a fine run, and getting through all opposition beat Dickie and put on the equaliser for the home team. From the restart the Rangers had another look in, and a fine effort on the part of McPherson resulted in that player again putting the ball past Traynor, and giving the Rangers the lead. Not to be done the Abercorn again came away, and a scrimmage at close quarters once more brought the teams level, Clelland putting the ball through After this some hard play was shown by both teams. The Rangers however had settled down, and in the latter part of this half had things all their own way, scoring three goals before the interval, one from Turnbull, and two from McPherson. The second portion was more than ever in the favour of the ‘Light Blues’. Shortly after the kick-off they scored from Miller, and a little afterwards, despite the efforts of the Abercorn defence, Crawford secured the seventh goal for the Ibrox team. The Paisley club seemed entirely disorganised and this although it may be stated that the weather conditions were entirely against them, and ten minutes from time the Rangers eighth goal was put on by McPherson, while just on the call of whistle, Turnbull scored the ninth. Result – Rangers 9 goals: Abercorn 2 goals.
