Match Trivia
Considerable interest was taken in the meeting of these teams at Ibrox Park, Govan, fully 6000 spectators were present. The Rangers lost the toss and kicked off. They had rather a stiff breeze and a strong sun to contend with. The Queen’s were first to show the way, and from a shot by W Stewart, Haddow had to concede a corner. Nothing came of it. Another run by the Queen’s left gave Lambie a chance, and he sent in a beauty to Haddow, who failed to hold it, and the ball landed in the net. First goal for Queen’s Park. A few minutes later the Queen’s had a free kick six yards out, and Gillespie headed a second point rather easily. Halftime result – Queen’s Park 2 goals: Rangers 0 goals. After a rather prolonged interval the game was resumed, the Queen’s now having to face the wind. The sun however had lost most of its brilliancy. The Rangers at once took up the running, and ere five minutes had gone Marshall scored their first goal with a long shot, Barker meanwhile attending to the goalkeeper. After a run by the Queen’s forwards the Rangers pressed, and Boyd scored a second goal. The Queen’s tried to make amends for the points lost, and they pressed to some purpose. A couple of corners, both of which proved fruitless, was all they got. Cowan and McNeish transferred lay to the other end, where the latter player had a chance, but his shot was weak. A couple of free kicks helped the Queen’s to get into the Rangers territory, but W Stewart shot past. Result Rangers 2 goals: Queen’s Park 2 goals.
