Match Trivia
The return League fixture between these teams was played at Ibrox Park, Govan Considerable interest was taken in the event. Neither team was at full strength, but capable substitutes were found. The Rangers kicked off. A nice piece of passing by their forwards carried the ball to Celtic territory, but Dunbar spoilt Barker’s shot. A minute later Cowan had a rare try, but the ball went past. The Celtic left wing from a pass on by Kelly made an effort to score, but they were intercepted by Marshall. For a time the Rangers pressed pretty severly, but the Celtic defence was able to hold its own. But for the brilliant play of Doyle, Dunbar and McArthur they should have scored easily. Shot after shot was sent in by the Rangers forwards, but with no effect. Halftime result – Rangers 0: Celtic 0. From a return by Doyle the Celtic left came away with a rush, and McMahon, passing all opposition, landed the ball in the net. First goal for Celtic. Rangers tried hard to get on equality, but their shooting got worse instead of better. A corner for the Rangers was unproductive, and again the Celtic took up the running. Not for long however. At last it came, McPherson got on the ball, and eluding Dunbar, he sent in a scorcher, which McArthur had no chance to save, and the game was again equal. Both teams now put in all they knew to get the leading point. There was no further scoring and the game ended in a draw, 1 goal each.
