Match Trivia
This return fixture attracted an attendance of 7000 spectators to Cappielow Park, and the weather was splendid. The Rangers forwards fairly ran round the Morton defence at the outset, but it was some time before the goal underwent any real attacking. For a time Morton were hemmed in. At last they broke through on the right, and in a melee near the goal Stewart was illegally brought down by Neil. Roberts took the kick, which was saved in businesslike fashion by Dickie. Through grand combination Rangers made to the other end of the field, where Robertson opened the scoring. This was but the breaking of the ice, and not many minutes had gone when Hamilton added a second point. Still the Rangers monopolised play and chiefly through weak goalkeeping (for Ritchie and Orr played well) MacDonald put on another couple before the interval, which came with the Rangers leading by 4 goals to 0. The second half was dull. The Rangers evidently satisfied with what they had secured rested on their oars, and allowed Morton to do what pressing they could. Nearly all through the home team peppered at Dickie, bit it only went to prove the sterling abilities of that keeper. Morton were a disappointing side, the halfbacks and the goalkeeper being especially weak. They played without purpose and with little spirit, and although the display of the team was the worst of the season. Result – Rangers 4 goals: Morton 0
