Match Trivia

Played on Ibrox Park before about 11,000 spectators. The Hearts had the wind at their backs in the first half, but the Rangers defence was of too solid a nature to allow them to gain much advantage therefore, and Dickie was not much troubled with shots. The Rangers forwards combined well, but it was well on ere their shooting gained sufficient vigour to beat McWattie, Hamilton scoring from a pass back by Smith, but the point was disallowed. Shortly after Speedie sent in a long low shot which counted. Halftime score – Rangers 1: Hearts 0. The Hearts equalised just after the restart, a break away and from a centre by Porteous was netted by Hunter, but within five minutes Speedie again put Rangers in the lead, this time from a melee in front of McWattie, who had no chance to save. Both goals underwent narrow escapes up to the close, but there was no further scoring. Result – Rangers 2: Hearts 1. Gate money £247; stands £45
