Match Trivia
At Mossfield the Battlefield had a visit from the Rangers. It will be remembered that the teams met in the Scottish ties in the beginning of September when the Rangers defeated the Battlefield by 4 goals to 1. Hector for the home team, started the ball. For the first few minutes’ play was pretty even, the strangers doing most of the pressing. Peacock getting away with the ball, passing to J Gow who had a smart run, and by some clever dodging eluded Cunningham sending in a low shot, which Anderson fisted out. The strangers still keeping up the pressure, the ball was brought in front of the home posts and through a scrimmage J Gow scored rather easily. A few minute afterwards another goal ell to the strangers in a like manner. The ball was now seldom out of the home ground, and Brand doing a nice run set in a sharp shot, which Anderson saved. The Battlefield now for the first time since the commencement of the game, took the ball the whole length of the field, but it was ultimately sent back. From a throw in the right wing of the Battlefield had a nice dribbling run, but were unable to past D Gow, who was playing his usual good game. A corner fell to the home team but the ball was sent too wide. Brand made a fine run, and passing across the field J Gow sent in a swift shot which rebounded off the cross bar, and Pringle taking it up, sent in a low shot which took effect. Immediately afterwards halftime was called, the result being :- Rangers 3 goals Battlefield 0. In the second half play commenced very even, and J Gow taking up the ball in fine fashion, sent in a beauty, which passed Anderson amid loud cheers. The ball was now transferred to the other end, but did all they could; the home team were unable to pass the Rangers back division. From a throw in the Battlefield got the advantage and almost scored. Again the ball went the length of the field, but was as quickly returned by Cunningham who sent it into midfield, where some exciting play took place, the Rangers if anything having the best of it, and making good headway Eaglesham (late of Summerton) put in a nice swift shot, which took effect. The Battlefield now had a run the length of the field and through a scrimmage in front of goal scored their first point. J Gow (late of Queen’s Park) assisted the Battlefield at back. When time was called the result was – Rangers 5 goals Battlefield 1 goal
