Match Trivia
The Rangers visited the Pilgrims at Copeland Park on Saturday last and the game resulted in a win for the visitors by 1 goal to nil. Owing to the severe nature of the weather, however the match only lasted about 40 minutes. The Rangers won the toss and started with a very strong wind at their back. The Pilgrims made a good kick off and sent the leather into the visitors territory, from which it was at once returned, where with the exception of two tries for goal, one being a corner, it remained to the end of the match. The Rangers had some close work in front of their opponent’s goal, and several times had hard lines at scoring. When play had lasted about half an hour, it was summarily interfered with by a terrific hailstorm and both teams instinctively made for the clubhouse. Nothing daunted, however in 5 minutes they again resumed the ‘fray’ and changed ends. They were soon again compelled, spectators and players alike to make for the nearest shelter, terminating what had been while it lasted a very interesting game. For the home team Wyllie, Shaw and especially Phillips at goal, did good service. The forwards played a good combined game and the backs defended their goal in able style. The Rangers were represented by the same team that played for them on Cathkin Park the previous Saturday, with the exception of Duncan whose place was filled by Cherrie. McKenzie on the right wing played a good game, and was well supported by Peacock. We have seen Cook to much better advantage in centre. Gossland on the left succeeded in placing the only goal scored during the match to his credit. The back division was up to its usual high standard.
