Match Trivia

This match came off on the ground of the Thistle, Robbsland Park on Saturday. The weather in the morning was threatening, the rain however kept off, and with the exception of a rather stiff breeze, the day was all that could be desired. The game was witnessed by a large number of spectators. The ball was sent rolling by the Thistle captain kicking off against the wind. During the first half the game was for the most part confined to Thistle territory, the forwards of the home team occasionally breaking through their opponents ranks. Despite the efforts of the Thistle the Rangers managed to place two goals to their credit. On change of ends, the Thistle with the wind in their favour showed a bolder front, and looked very like scoring as immediately, the ball was kicked off, Cunningham by a nice run nearly lowered the Rangers colours. The attack was however repelled and the ball sent into neutral ground. The play was pretty fast during this half, and the home team wrought hard to retrieve its honours, but the splendid back play og Gillespie kept them from scoring. Campbell and M McNeil of the Rangers occasionally approached the Thistle goal, but to no effect. For the home team Cunningham and Fullarton as forwards, distinguished themselves, and Hunter at back, and Hutchinson at half back were of good service, while the goalkeeping of McKissock cannot be too highly commended. For the Rangers McNeil, Campbell and Gillespie were conspicuous. Both teams afterwards dined in the Ayr Arms Hotel, where a very enjoyable evening was spent
