Match Trivia
The Rangers and Queen’s Park clubs competed on the ground of the Queen’s Park, in presence of fully 10,000 spectators, amongst whom were Lord Provost, several of the city Bailies, Provosts Wilson and Browne of Govan and Crosshill, and a large number of ladies and gentlemen. At the close the Lord Provost presented the cup to the captain of the Queen’s Park, the members of the eleven each receiving a gold badge. The proceeds of the two matches will amount to nearly £300, and will be handed over to city charities. The match was more one-sided than was anticipated, the Queen’s Park winning by four goals to none. The strong breeze blowing however, prevented good play, and the wind proved decidedly kind to the senior team. In the last half the Rangers repeatedly assailed their opponent’s stronghold, but no scoring occurred, although the ball was twice nearly through. The game which was not of an exciting nature, ended in favour of the Queen’s Park by four goals to nothing. In the evening the two clubs were entertained to tea in Mr Ancell’s Glassford Street
