Under very unfavourable circumstances these teams met at Alexandra. When the Rangers kicked off with the wind it was evident they would have little difficulty in containing the play in the home territory. This they succeeded in doing but beyond taking one goal when the game was about fifteen minutes old they were unfortunate in scoring. On a change of ends the Vale worked hard to score but it was some time before this was done. A hand was claimed by the Rangers off Forbes. The other side affirmed that the ball struck the arm not the hand. Play did not stop entirely and Vallance missing his kick the ball went through. A dispute followed but it was mutually settled – no goal. Shortly after the Vale centres by very careful lay worked the ball right in front of goal and sent it through. A few minutes later another goal was taken by the Vale and darkness coming on play was stopped before time was fully up.
