Match Trivia
The “cup-tie” in which these clubs were interested was played on the ground of the Rangers, Kinning Park and resulted in their favour by three goals to none. Vallance kicked off against the wind and the forwards of his team ran the ball well into the opponent’s territory. Shaftesbury backs however relieved their fortress from all danger and the leather was kept knocking about for some time. At length a long shot by Vallance was well followed up and after a brief scrimmage in front of the Shaftesbury goal was kicked through by Struthers. The ball was then run up and down the field by both teams, but the Rangers were not to be denial and again succeeded in scoring. The Shaftesbury team was seemed to gain determination and pulling themselves together made repeated chargers at their opponent’s citadel. Nothing resulted from them as the Rangers repulse every attack and retaliated by keeping the Shaftesbury goalkeeper activity employed between his posts, while about a quarter of an hour before time was called their play succeeded in securing in scoring another goal chiefly through the determination of Marshall. Immediately afterwards the Rangers headed the ball through, but the goal was disallowed and the gamed ended in favour of the Rangers by three goals to none
