Match Trivia

We had the pleasure a seeing a very pleasant game between a Rangers team and Uddingston on Tuesday evening. The game finished a draw – one goal each – some pretty play being displayed on both sides. When will referees learn the laws of the game? Rangers had a free kick close to the village posts, and in kicking off, tripped it back. The referee awarded a free kick to Uddingston for this, and on being challenged, stated that the interpretation of the rule in Lanarkshire was that a free kick must be made towards your opponents goal line. Now, be it known to ye men of Lanarkshire that, while the game must be started by a place kick in the direction of the opposite goal line, a free kick is a kick at the ball in any direction the player pleases
