Match Trivia
The Rangers assisted by Hislop, of the Partick Thistle, and Bowie, of the Linthouse, met the Dumbarton at Ibrox Park on Saturday in the second tie of the tournament organised by the United Abstainers FC. There would be about 4,000 spectators present when Bowie started the game for the Rangers, who played with the sun shining in their eyes, but with the advantage of the wind at their back, during the first half. At an early stage of the game the Rangers began to press, and during the greater part of this half kept the Dumbarton defence busy. Bowie scored the first goal for them after five minutesÂ’ play. This was followed by a second point a few minutes later being scored by Hislop. Although the Rangers made several good attempts to add to their score they always found McLeod more than a match for them. Just before half-time was called the Dumbarton men got well into Rangers ground, where McMillan sent in a long dropping shot, which Galbraith converted into a goal, and the team crossed over with the Rangers leading by 2 goals to 1. The second half was almost a repetition of the first, with the exception that Dumbarton did the pressing and the Rangers the defending. Bell equalised with a splendid shot shortly after the restart. Reid, Hay and Gow played so well that it looked as if the game would end in a draw, but it was not to be, as about five minutes from the finish Bell scored again from a corner kick. The Rangers played hard to equalise, but could not manage to do so, and Dumbarton retired victors of a hard game by 3 goals to
