Played at Cathkin Park in presence of about 2000 spectators. The Volunteers managed to reverse the decision in the first engagement between these clubs this year in defeating the Rangers by two goals to one. The ground was very heavy and dribbling was no easy matter. The third scored within ten minutes of the kick-off out of a scrimmage after which the play was equal until near the close of the first half when the Volunteers scored a second point. On changing ends the Rangers played was great determination but were unable to steer the ball through the back division of the local team. A long shot by one of the right forwards however ultimately took effect. Urquhart making an attempt to stop the leather but missed and the Rangers were credited with a first score. About ten minutes from the call of time Urquhart fell while trying to save the ball again going through and a scene of an extraordinary nature took place. All the players crowded round the Volunteers goal and a determined ‘maul’ after the Rugby fashion took place. The spectacle was most unusual and as it was prolonged for a few minutes the spectators crowded unto the field of play and though it wanted six minutes from the call of time the match an abrupt termination. During the progress of the ‘spirited’ contest in front of goal one of the goal posts was knocked down. The game thus resulted in a win for the Volunteers. Both clubs were strongly represented
