Played at Cathkin Park and ended in a draw with two goals each. The Rangers won the toss and had the assistance of a stiff breeze in the first half. Before a start was made the Volunteers lodged a formal protest against Thomson of Preston North End assisting the Rangers. Thomson had been specially brought down from Lancashire for the occasion. The Rangers at the contact made the pace lively and obtained a corner kick in a minute. The volunteers broke loose and Marshall dashing along the right, the other forwards were up in time to rush through the first goal for 3rd Lanark after three minutes play, the cheering being most enthusiastic. The Rangers now pressed the volunteers and continued to do so during the whole of the first half, several corner kicks falling to them. They could not however manage to score, their shooting being very bad indeed. On crossing over however the Rangers in two minutes made the score equal Lawrie putting the ball through by a long shot. The 3rd Lanark now put the Rangers no the defensive and had several dangerous shots for goal but Chalmers the custodian played well. However Stewart with a daisy cropper beat him and placed the Volunteers in front by two goals to one. It looked as if the game was now safe for the 3rd Lanark, but a mistake on the part of their goalkeeper enabled their opponents to again make the game equal thus ended in a draw. Third Lanark lodge a protest that Sam Thomson was a professional, the protest was upheld
