Match Trivia
Played on the ground of the former at Paisley on Saturday, there was a good attendance. As soon as the ball was sent off the Rangers settled down to lay in a very vigorous manner. Thrice in succession they had the ball in Patrick’s hands. One of the shots, a splendid effort by McPherson, was only turned back at the expense of a corner. The St Mirren halfbacks got the danger away, and then their forwards dashed off, and Orr closed the run by placing the ball into the net. This success of the ground team was greatly cheered by the local crowd. Splendid play followed. The interval however, was reached with the St Mirren still leading by the only goal scored. On resuming the Rangers led by Hamilton and McPherson crowded in front of Patrick. The former had a splendid opportunity to equalise from a pass by Graham, and he took full advantage of it, driving the ball into the net with great force. St Mirren as strongly retaliated, and Wylie placed the ball past Dickie for the second time. A foul previous to this was claimed, and the goal was accordingly lost. A second goal was obtained for the Rangers, also by Hamilton, after a fine piece of work taken part in by the entire front division. Hamilton, who was in splendid shooting form, scored a third goal with a low swift shot. Right up to the finish play was keenly contested, but there was no further scoring. Result – Rangers 3: St Mirren 1.
