The second match was between the above teams. The St Bernards started, and played for about five minutes with a man short. Grant after a good run down the right centred well, when Gow headed the ball out of danger. The Rangers forwards took up the running but Baillie saved, and Ross by a strong kick returned the ball to midfield. Buchanan finished up a good run by sending the ball into the Edinburgh teams goal. Baillie fisted out, but the on appeal the referee allowed the Glasgow men a goal, the ball being through before being struck out. Pringle had a smart run dodging three of his opponents, and one of the Edinburgh backs by a miss kick concentred a corner. The ball was well placed, but the St Bernards got the leather, and had a good run the whole length of the field. Gow tackled well, and after some exciting play in front of the top goal R Fraser late of the Queen’s Park, by a clever arrow kick placed a second point to the credit of the Glasgow team. The ‘Saints’ warming to their work, pressed the visitors; but McIntyre who was playing splendidly drove them back, and a raid by Lawrie and Pringle gave Baillie some anxiety. A splendid shot was saved by Baillie at the expensive of a corner, and out of a lively scrimmage which ensured the ball was headed through the St Bernards goal for a third time. An easy chance of scoring was lost for the St Bernards by Barnett sending the ball over the bar. The Edinburgh men kept up the pressure, and an exciting scrimmage was formed in front of the Rangers posts, but the ball was sent over the line. The play became very exciting; the St Bernards making a desperate effort in retrieve their position. The Rangers repeatedly broke away, but their opponents were not to be denied and at last Riddoch sent the ball through, Arthur attending in the goalkeeper. Fast play followed till halftime was called. During the second half the game was well contested. The forwards on both sides combined well, and the backs were severely taxed in the defence of their citadel. A splendid shot from the foot of one of the St Bernards was cleverly saved by Chalmers, who fisted out the leather while lying on the ground. Good passing by the Rangers transferred the play to the others end, where Baillie successfully cleared his lines. Taking u the running the ‘Saints’ pressed the visitors, but the backs were on the alert, and the leather was passed to midfield, where a foul was given against the Rangers. The ball was well placed, and a hot shot from Barnett just scrapped the crossbar. The remainder of the game was principally fought out in St Bernards territory, and several exciting scrimmages took place a few yards from goal, but the Rangers failed to add to their score and consequently finished victorious by 4 goals to one.
