The undecided Glasgow Charity Cup tie between the Rangers and Vale of Leven took place on Hampden Park last night before a fair attendance of spectators. A strong breeze blew across the field, and the Vale winning the toss took advantage of it. The result was that in less than five minutes they scored the first point D McIntyre doing the needful. The Rangers, However were not long in equalising, John Allan affecting a capital run, and passing to the left when a grand goal was scored against the wind, admits loud cheering. Immediately afterwards the Vale were at the other end, and obtained a corner, which was beautifully placed, but McLaren kicked the ball high over the bar. In the next minute the Dunbartonshire men sent the ball spinning through, but a foul was given beforehand, and the point was disallowed. It mattered little, however, for immediately afterwards Cowan sent in a flying shot which beat Nicol, thus securing the second goal for the Vale. Towards the close of the first half the Vale put on a third point, also from the right, and ends were changed with the score standing – Vale 3; Rangers 1
Soon after restarting, Nicol, at halfback, scored the second point for the Rangers. Ten minutes afterwards they equalised amidst loud cheers. Before the close other two points were gained through the instrumentality of McKenzie, the Rangers thus winning by 5 goals to 3. The second half was of a very fast description, and none of the goals could have been saved by Wilson, who played a brilliant game, as also did Forbes
