Match Trivia
Played at Kinning Park and ended in a draw, with three goals each. The Vale of Leven winning the toss immediately kicked off. The Rangers had the best of it for the first few minutes, Forbes defending in his usual first class style. The scene of play was then transferred to the other end of the field and the Rangers were much pressed. After some brilliant play in front of the goal the Rangers, from a scrimmage scored within five minutes of the commencement of the game. The Vale after this played rather loosely and the Rangers succeeded in notching another point. Ten minutes had gone, and the Rangers had by this time two goals up. The left wing of the Vale of Leven was working hard, but the back division of the Rangers played up splendidly. After some give and take lay the Rangers left wing had a splendid run down the field Gow showing up well. The Vale of Leven after this had a look in, Davie putting in good work. After some play in midfield the Vale again got away, but McHardy playing splendidly relieved the pressure. Some exciting play was then witnessed in front of the Rangers goal, which nearly resulted in a goal to the Vale of Leven, but Chalmers defended well. The Vale left wing playing admirably together worked the ball down, and Coleman centring the leather; McIntyre sent in a swift low shot which Chalmers had great difficulty in saving. The Vale kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a splendid goal. After the kick-off the Rangers had a brilliant run, Buchanan finishing up with a beautiful shot, which Wilson just saved. Just before halftime a goal fell to the Rangers, which was disputed, but the referee on being appealed to, decided in favour of the Rangers, and when time was called the game stood – Rangers three goals; Vale one. In the second half both teams warmed up their work and the play was very fast. Half an hour had elapsed before anything was done, after which the Vale scored their second point. After the kick-off the Vale forwards had a combined run which ended in a splendid goal being taken from the foot of D McIntyre, and equalising matters. From this time till the end of the game the play was somewhat fast and loose, and when time was called the game was left drawn, with three goals each.
