The first of this season’s Charity ties was played at Hampden Park on Saturday, in breezy weather before a good attendance of spectators. With a strong wind at their backs the Third had a big part of the game in the first half. There was however a wont of method about their play, and in addition their shooting left much to be desired. Occasional strong wind attacks made the Rangers always dangerous and ultimately getting the opposing defence in two minds Speedie scored with a fast rising shot. Rangers led by 1 goal to 0 at the interval. The second half saw the Rangers in the ascendance, but they failed to increase their score, and in the end won by 1 goal to 0. It was a hard but by no means scientific game, and the Rangers won because they were the better-balanced team. The drawings at the gate and stands amounted to £423. The Lord Provost and several of the Magistrates were present at the game, and the band of the 3rd L.R.V. played before the start and during the interval
