Match Trivia
This match took place on the ground of the Rangers, Kinning Park and after a capital game the result was a tie with one goal each. The 3rd L R V won the toss and played with a slight wind in their favour during the first half and shortly after the kick off McDonald had a shy at the Rangers goal. The Volunteers continued to press their opponents and notwithstanding the fine defence of the home team back McAdam got within range and with a ‘shooter’ made the first goal of the match. Some very fast play ensued on both sides the Rangers being unable to get close enough to the 3d goal to score owing to the fine back play of Kennedy and Phillips. The Rangers had now the wind in their favour and in a short time had the ball down on their opponents goal where several exciting scrimmages occurred but again the backs were on the alert and repeatedly saved their charge in brilliant form. Eventually ‘ a hand’ was given against the 3rd L R V, and Gillespie (who was playing back) placed the leather in such a position that it was headed through by Pringle. The Volunteers disputed the goal claiming that the ball had been through before it was touched, but the appeal was not sustained. The play after this was very exciting each goal being in turn endangered but no more scoring occurred, the game which lasted an hour ended in a tie. For the Volunteers Kennedy and Phillips at back, and McAdam, Miller and McCallum in front, were in rare form. On the side of the Rangers T Vallance, Drinnan and Gillespie (back) and Pringle, Hill and Inglis (forward) were the most prominent
