Match Trivia

On Ibrox Park last night before about 3000 spectators these teams met in a friendly engagement. James Miller who has gone to Sunderland, this season again, was not included in the team, but Livingstone late of the Hearts played in the front line. Rangers gave a trial to Leslie of the Strathclyde who played in played instead of McPherson. The Rangers opened very well their passing being very smart and well timed; so that Doig was early called on to save. After tow minutes play Rangers obtained a penalty for McCombie handing inside the 12 yards line, and Robertson opened the scoring. From this point the visitors made a much better show, and but for the sterling defence of Drummond and Crawford, Dickie should have had more to do. The Sunderland left pair were going in great form, and Gibson was kept on the move all the time, his tackling saving his side time and again. Up to the close of this half there was no further scoring. Halftime result – Rangers 1 goal: Sunderland 0. In the second half the visitors played a much more refined game, and Dickie had plenty of hard shots to save, the shooting being very strong and deadly. Livingstone made a splendid individual run, from which after three ineffectual efforts to get through, he equalised. A Smith and Hamilton played up with greater determination as the game went on, and some rare shots were sent in by the pair, from which Doig had frequently to concede corners to clear his charge, but no scoring resulted. The Sunderland halfback line were very reliable, Ferguson and McAllister doing a lot of clever tackling work, and feeding their forwards very judiciously. Up to the close the game was full of interest, but there was no further scoring. Result – A draw 1 goal each.
