Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park before 12,000 spectators. Playing with the wind behind them the Saints attacked, Craig defended brilliantly and Newbigging got little to do. The Saints forwards shooting was for a time generally wide of the mark. After several breaks-away by the home forwards of whom Kyle played a clever game, the visitors attacked to more purpose than before, and Newbigging was kept busy, on one occasion he had to clear twice ere getting rid of the ball. A penalty a penalty was awarded against Craig and Jackson scored. Play continued fast, but of poor quality till halftime. Halftime – St Mirren 1: Rangers 0. With the wind in their favour the Rangers attacked vigorous, but had little luck at goal. Rae saved brilliantly from Kyle shortly after Galt and Mainds had had tries for goal. The Rangers played most determinedly for the equaliser, and it seemed sure to come. Insuring scrimmages in front of the Saints goal, one of the visitors gave away a penalty, and Kyle equalised. The game by this time had developed into a scramble, and both goals were visited several times in the last five minutes, without success. Result – Rangers 1: St Mirren 1. Drawings £313 5s.
