Match Trivia
The Rangers had the St Mirren as their visitors at Kinning Park and here the games was well worth witnessing, as Jack was quite as good as his master, and the spectators, who numbered about a thousand had the pleasure of assisting at a very interesting game. The Rangers had what most people believed would be its team for the season, but one or two of the men not coming up to expectations, there will be a slight chance in the ‘light blue’ team that will be opposed to Dumbarton tomorrow. The St Mirren had much the same team that had such a difficulty in over coming the Neilston in their cup-tie a fortnight ago. There was however no ‘unsteady’ member in the front rank and consequently the Saints were able to give the Rangers a rather stiff tussle for supremacy. The ‘light blues’ registered a goal in each half, and the Paisley men just before the whistle blew gained their only point; in fact, there was no time to re-start the ball before time was called. The Rangers team did not satisfy me, nor their friends either for that matter. McKenzie is a decided acquisition to the Rangers. Morton is not up to their class, and Lawrie was weak. Gossland played A1, but Pringle wants a little more work before he is wound up to concert pitch. Both halfback, Cameron and McIntyre were at their best. The pair have been in training all summer, and the Rangers reap the benefit now. McHardy, in his new position at back played wonderfully well; while Chalmers, at goal saved several very difficult shots in his usual quick and clever way. For good steady play, at times brilliant I must eulogise the two St Mirren backs. They never made a mistake. Of such a pair the Saints are justly proud. Drinnan too was as clever as ever in goal; while the forwards were all good men and true. I was immensely taken with the play of the Saints and regret to hear that a certain unregistered gentleman has taken his departure to the land where professionals most do congregate
