Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park before 6000 spectators and in splendid weather. Losing the toss the Rangers kicked off against a slight breeze. The Saints were first to press, and by a rush they got the ball behind. Morgan and Wylie were prominent in the attack, and Drummond had a lot time of it keeping them in check. Aided by Gibson he sent the ball well up the field, and R Campbell and Miller were getting well set when Bennie interposed, and again play was transferred to Rangers territory, where they obtained a corner. It came to nothing. From a break away Turnbull got well set, and getting through the opposition he passed out to Crawford, who in turn centred. Turnbull had a rare chance to score, but in his haste he banged the ball past the post. After Wylie and Colquhoun each had a shot at Dickie, the Rangers came with a rush, and from a pass by Miller Hyslop scored the first goal of the match. Again the Rangers got act, and some clever play by their forwards enabled Turnbull to notch a second goal for his teams. Patrick was in no way to blame for the loss of either point. A combined run by the whole front division enabled R Crawford to score a third goal for the Rangers. The St Mirren players pulled themselves together after this, and by some determined play they got well into their opponents territory. Here Mullen from long range scored the first goal for the Saints. Halftime – Rangers 3 goals: St Mirren 1 goal. The St Mirren were completely outplayed in the second half, and the Rangers adding two more goals, won rather easily by 5 to 1.
