Match Trivia

A friendly fixture between these teams took place last night at Ibrox Park, Govan, unfortunately just before the start the weather broke down and rain fell heavily. The Renton set the ball in motion with the wind at their backs. Rangers were first to press and Oswald tried Lindsay, but the Rentonian saved smartly. Then McLean and Murray had a run, but all they got was a corner. Some centre play was followed by McIntyre getting away on the Rangers right. He was tackled by R Glen and passed to J Miller, who shot the first for the Rangers. This was followed by a brace of corners for the Renton, but neither was productive. After this the Rangers put in some grand work in Renton’s territory, but the defence was sound. Coleman, Hastie and Bruce were very sure in their tackling. A couple of rare shots by Hyslop just missed by inches. At the other end Forsyth had a chance, which he shot past. Renton tried hard to equalise, but Dickie was not to be beat. A rush by the Rangers forced Coleman to concede a corner. The ball was well placed by Hyslop and McPherson scored a second goal. A minute later Oswald put on a third goal for the Rangers. Halftime – Rangers 3 goals: Renton nil. Without leaving the field the players crossed over and resumed the game. Renton made strenuous efforts to score, but their shots were fruitless. A nice piece of combined work by Hyslop, Oswald and McPherson carried play to the opposite end, where they got a corner, but Lindsay cleared. Again Renton came away, and a long pass by Galbraith enabled Forsyth to score their first goal. Within a couple of minutes Oswald notched a fourth goal from a pass by Hyslop. Both teams were playing a grand game, but neither were dangerous at goal. Towards the close the Renton got a corner, which Hyslop cleared. He carried the ball the length of the field, and gave Lindsay a scorcher to hold which he did to perfections. McCreadie next had a couple of tries, but neither had the desired effect. Towards the close Renton pressed severely, but no further scoring took place. Result – Rangers 4 goals: Renton 1 goal.
