Match Trivia

Played last night at Ibrox Park, Govan, in glorious weather, and before about 2000 spectators. Rangers were without Drummond, Mitchell and Kerr, their place being taken by ‘Muir’ Scott and AB McKenzie. The home team won the toss, and took advantage of the wind. The Saints were first to become dangerous, and Haddow was called upon to save twice in succession. Gradually the Rangers got down, but their visit was brief, as the Paisley team came away in a body, and forced a brace of corner in quick succession, but no further advantage accrued. After Haddow had saved shots from Smith and Milne, the Rangers broke away and fairly bombarded the Saints goal. Eventually A McCreadie found an opening goal, and the ‘Light Blues’ stood one up. Evidently encouraged by this success, they again attacked, and for a time the Saints defence was sorely taxed. By and by the visitors got away, and Milne finished a dashing run by eluding Haddow thus equalising. Two minutes later Allan put the Rangers in the ascendancy by heading the ball past Cameron. The game then opened up for a time, but latterly the Rangers pressed. Halftime Rangers 2: St Mirren 1. On restarting the Saints had a goal disallowed. The ball at this time was kept travelling rapidly from goal to goal, and from one of these runs the Saints gained their second point. Both teams were now on a level, and the Saints made strenuous efforts to obtain the lead, and but for the smartness of Haddow they would have succeeded. Latterly this was accomplished, Smith doing the needful. Result – St Mirren 3 goals: Rangers 2 goals.
