Match Trivia
This game, which was postponed last Saturday on account of the frost, was played at Kinning Park, and resulted in a draw – one goal each. The Renton kicked off, and after some passing carried the ball into the Rangers territory. The Rangers however sent it into midfield, where some scrimmaging occurred. The strangers by and by got the leather back again, and this time gained a corner-flag kick, but sent it far into their opponent’s territory. The play now became very fast, but it was with difficulty that the men could keep their feet. The Renton by a good run brought the ball up to their opponent’s goal but it was prevented from going through by Chalmers, who caught it and sent it back. The Renton immediately afterwards made another effort to score, but the Rangers got hold of the ball and carried it into their opponent’s territory. The Dumbarton men retaliated and carried the ball into the Rangers lines, where the backs did some hard work. The latter then repelled the ball from their ground to the approaches of the goal of their opponents, and the forwards of the Rangers soon made a rash for goal, and the ball was passed to Lindsay who made a shot, which the Renton goalkeeper sent back. Another good run was made on the part of the home team, but nothing came of it. A few minutes latter Lawrie succeeded in sending the ball through the posts of the Renton – thus securing the first goal for the Ranger half-an-hour after the commitments of the match. Some passing afterwards ensured, but no further scoring took place up till halftime. After the ball was again in motion the visitors kept it well in the Rangers territory for some time, when that team broke through and carried the ball into the Renton’s ground, but the Rangers forwards repelled the Dumbarton men, who then sent the leather into midfield. In the play that further ensured the goals of both teams were endangered, but no further scoring took place till about five minutes before termination of the match. A scrimmage then took place at the mouth of the Rangers posts, when McNee on the left headed the ball through the posts thus ending the match in a draw
