Match Trivia

Prompt on time the Renton, having lost the toss set the ball in motion. The pass was smartly caught up by McPherson and Steel, and they made tracks for Lindsay. McCall stopped their progress however and Bell initiated a run to the Rangers end. Gow and Drummond were well in check. From a return by Drummond the Rangers obtained a corner, which was well placed, McGregor heading out, but Drummond was lying handy, and with a well aimed shot he sent the ball into the net, thus registering the first goal for the Rangers. Retuning to the attack Scott sent a good pass across to Steel, who notched a second goal for the Rangers with a neat header. Halftime result – Rangers 2: Renton 0. After the usual interval the game resumed, the Rangers having to face a stiff breeze. From the kick-off they at once made tracks for Lindsay, and Kerr tried a shot, but the ball went past the post. The goal kick was well taken up by Towie, who carried the ball right into the Rangers territory. Gow and Drummond had their work cut out for a short time, but Haddow ultimately relieved, and McPherson obtained possession. By clever tactics he got well among the Renton backs and passed to Steel, but ere the latter shot the referee whistle was blown and offside was given. The next feature of the game was a splendid run by J McCall. Undecided he dribbled the ball right up the field. He passed and forced Drummond to concede a corner. Nothing came of it however. The game was pretty open each goal being assailed in turn. The shooting was a bit off however. Towie and McCall were putting in some good work on the Renton left wing, but Marshall and Gow kept then well in check. Result Rangers 2 goals: Renton 0 goals.
