Match Trivia
There were at anyrate 18,000 spectators at Ibrox to witness the semi-final tie for the Glasgow Cup played between the Rangers and the Queen’s Park (the holders). The money drawn at the gate came to £426 odds, while £117 odds was taken at the stands. The attendance was highly satisfactory considering the adverse weather conditions – heavy rain, accompanied by sweeping wind from the south-west. The Queen’s played the team originally selected, but the Rangers did not choose theirs till the last moment. The ground was very heavy, and as it turned out at the finish told heavily against the Queen’s, who were not so well trained as their professional brethren, and succumbed by the heavy score of seven goals to three. The game requires little description. In the first half the Queen’s even playing against the wind, held their own, displaying a good football as the weather conditions would permit, and actually led at the interval by three goals to two. A wonderful change came over the game in the second period. It had just been restarted when a penalty kick was given against the Queen’s and from this the Rangers scored. The heavy ground was now telling on the Queen’s, and the Rangers taking full advantage scored goal after goal. The Queen’s were perfectly unable to stand the brush with their professional opponents, and this combined with slackness in goal, lost them the match. The final falls to be played between the Rangers and the Celtic.
