Match Trivia
There was a gratifying attendance, fully 15,000 spectators at this return match played at Ibrox. Play opened in favour of the Rangers whose shooting however was poor. After a spell of even play the Rangers again became very aggressive, chiefly owing to the grand work of May, McColl and Smith, Skene got plenty of work to do and performed his part well. The Queen’s were standing up splendidly to the deadly attack of their opponents, and never lost an opportunity of breaking away on the wings, but with barren results at goal, owing to their impotence at close quarters. The Rangers attack increased in severity as the game progressed and after a corner kick, Mackie scored from short range. The Rangers were slightly superior to halftime. Halftime – Rangers 1 goal: Queen’s Park 0. A very even game ensured for some time after the restart, but once they had discovered the weaknesses of the visitor’s defence the Rangers put on goal after goal, the scorers being, Walker, McColl, Mackie and Hamilton in the order named. The Queen’s were often enough at the Rangers goal, but Watson was almost a spectators on account of the continued fruitlessness of the Queen’s at close quarters and the excellence of the ground teams back play. Result – Rangers 5 goals: Queen’s Park 0. Drawings – Gate money £335; stands and enclosure £64 – total £399
