Match Trivia

The return game between these teams took place at Kinning Park and ended in favour of the home eleven by seven goals to one. The Pollockshields men played one short all the time the play lasted, while on the Rangers side Cochrane a Second Eleven player, did duty for Heggie. The Rangers played against the wind in the first round and for fully ten minutes some very creditable runs were made on both sides on the snow covered field, it soon became apparent that the Rangers were going to win from the manner in which they played together, and Buchanan secured the first goal for them out of a scrimmage, and about ten minutes there after a second was put to the Rangers credit by McKenzie. These reverses seemed to put the visitors on their mettle, and after the next kick off the Pollockshields forwards made a fast run to Rangers’ territory, and Wilson by a clever bit of play, scored what proved to be their only goal. Shortly before halftime arrived, however the Rangers got another goal, and were thus two ahead when ends were changed. At the outset of the second half the play was of a give-and-take order for a little, but again the superior combination of the Rangers began to tell, and Gow secured a fourth goal for his side, and not very long there after a fifth came from the foot of Cochrane. The game was now getting painfully one-sided, and before time was called the Rangers had secured other two points, seven in all against one made in the first round by the visitors. The forward play of the home team was particularly good, considering the slippery ground, and McIntyre proved the best back on the field.
