Match Trivia

This, the only game of much consequence in the Glasgow district, came off at Ibrox Park the ground of the Rangers, and ended in their favour by three goals to one. The home team loss the toss and Fraser kicked off. For some time the play was very even, but in a little the Thistle obtained a free kick near the local men’s citadel, but after some scrimmaging the ball was sent behind. On the game resumed the Rangers were severely pressed, and the ball was latterly sent through the goal posts, but the effort went for nothing on account of the Thistle being ‘off-side’. The Rangers pressed hard up and obtained a free kick near the stranger’s goal, and got their first point out of a scrimmage. The play, which followed, was uninteresting, but the Rangers decidedly had the best of it. About fifteen minutes from the scoring of the Rangers first goal Gow managed to put a second goal to their record. At halftime the Rangers were tow goals to the good. On play being resumed the Thistle pressed hard on their opponents but nothing came of it. The ball was twice sent over the Rangers goal lines. The home team then made their way across the field and put the ball under but the point was not allowed owing to offside. The Thistle then assumed the offensive, and by means of very good passing scored a goal about ten minutes from the start. The game was now greatly improved, and much good passing was experienced on both sides. The Rangers again pressed and secured third goal out of a scrimmage. Neither of the teams scored again, and the game resulted in a win for the ground team by three goals to one. Each round of the game only lasted 35 minutes owing to the late start
