Match Trivia
These teams played their tie at Ibrox Park, Govan last night. Owing to the early hour of starting the attendance of spectators was meagre only about 1000 people being present. The ground was rather soft after the heavy rain showers earlier in the day. Losing the toss, the Northern kicked off against a slight breeze. Play was open for several minutes. Then the Northern pressed, and Fraser scored their first goal. Two minutes later the Rangers equalised, H McCreadie doing the needful. Both teams strove hard to improve their position. The Rangers pressed, but from a breakaway the Northern again scored, Watson getting the goal rather easily. Nettled at this reverse, the Rangers came away in a lively manner, and J McPherson again made the game equal by scoring with a lovely shot. The Northern were playing a hard game, their passing being above the average. Although each goal was visited in turn, no further scoring was done ere the whistle sounded. Halftime result – a draw, 2 goals each. Without leaving the field the players resumed the game. The Rangers at once took up the running, and ere two minutes had gone D McPherson had scored their third goal. The game was now pretty much confined to the Northern’s territory. From a free kick H McCreadie added a fourth goal for the Rangers. Five minutes later A McCreadie scored their fifth goal with a lovely shot. This was followed soon after by a sixth goal, H McCreadie again having the honour of giving the ball the finishing touch. The Northern tried hard to improve their position, but the halfbacks play of the Rangers kept them at bay. For the Rangers Scott, A McCreadie, Kerr and J McPherson played well: while Brady, Buist in particular, and Kyle were most conspicuous for the Northern. Final result – Rangers 6 goals: Northern 2 goals.
