Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox in splendid weather, and before as attendance of over 8,000. Morton started play towards the pavilion goal, their left were early prominent with some fine foot work, and Jackson was forced to concede a corner. No sooner was this cleared than the same pair were the means of Newbigging being called upon to save his goal, which he did at the expense of a second corner, which was also unproductive. Kyle and Rankine tried to put a better complexion on matters from the Rangers point of view, but their well-meant efforts were of little avail against the sturdy defence of the Morton’s back division. Taylor had the best shot of the match so far, but the drive for goal was diverted past the post by one of his own forwards. The succeeding play of the first half was quiet, and uninteresting, and it was a relief when halftime was called with the game still pointless. The second half showed a great improvement, the Rangers settling down quickly, and soon opening the scoring, Kivlichan cleverly accepting a pass from Spiers and beating Robertson close in. Spiers followed with a second five minutes later. Ruddiman and Kyle both made rare attempts to get further ahead, but found a stumbling block in Robertson, who saved well in the concluding stages of the game, which ended in favour of the Rangers by 2 to 1.
