Match Trivia

The opening League match took place at Ibrox Park, before about 12,000. At the outset the Hibs forced the pace, and Allan had to clear twice. Thereafter the home team became very persistent in their attacks, and Rennie was repeatedly called upon to save, Allan was only occasionally visited so safe in their defence were the halves and Smith. Shortly before halftime Hamilton capped a touchline run with a goal, after Speedie and Mackie had failed to get at the ball, which lay in front of Rennie. The Rangers continued to be more aggressive than their opponents, and at halftime deservedly led. Halftime – Rangers 1 goal: Hibernian 0. After the first five minutes of the second half, the Rangers pressed almost incessantly, and Mackie scored early. Hamilton who was now in centre, followed with another, and Kyle added a fourth point after splendid goal by Speedie had been disallowed by the referee after consultation with the linesman. The home team easily retained their four goals lead to the end. Result – Rangers 4 goals: Hibernian 0
