Match Trivia
These teams opposed each other at Tynecastle, Edinburgh in their return Inter-City League engagement, before fully 4000 spectators. The Rangers were received with a sympathetic cheer on stepping on to the field. The Hearts were the first to assume the aggregative, and a shot from Walker brought McPherson to his knees. The Rangers retaliated through RC Hamilton, but danger was averted; then Thomson got nicely away, and when near goal he passed to Bell, who missed the ball, and a good chance went a-begging. Graham enlivened the proceedings somewhat with a pretty piece of play, and after getting the better of Baird, he sent in a swift shot which glanced off the side of the net. A Smith next had a try, but Wallace succeeded in saving his charge. Following on a spell of even play Blackburn got away, and sent in a grand shot to McPherson, but before the Rangers custodian could get rid of the ball Thomson brushed past Smith and sent the leather into the net. After this reverse the pace became faster, and RC Hamilton taking a pass from A Smith sent in a stinging shot, which Wallace smartly saved. Thomson was in great fettle causing the opposition a deal of trouble, and repeatedly brought danger in his dashes. The Hearts were having decidedly the best of matters, and Bell centring, Walker beat McPherson with a fine shot. Shortly afterwards halftime arrived with the score Hearts 2 goals: Rangers 0. On resuming the Rangers pressed and A Smith forced Wallace to give away a corner. At the other end McPherson had to clear a swift shot from Bell. The Rangers occasionally got within shooting distance, but never was anything like dangerous. A Smith and RC Hamilton tried hard to make up leeway, and a rousing cheer greeted a pretty display by the players named. Until the finish the play was in favour of the Hearts, but no further scoring took place, and the game ended Heart of Midlothian 2 goals: Rangers 0. The gate and stand drawings amounted to £133, while about £13 was collected for the Ibrox disaster fund
