Match Trivia

These teams met at Kinning Park the ground of the Rangers to play a friendly game. There was a fair attendance. Little importance however was attached to the match from the fact that the Rangers had not their regular team, four of their best men being away the Glasgow team in Birmingham. From the beginning to the end the match was keenly contested, but the home players had evidently the best of it. The Thistle kicked off and in a few minutes after the Rangers forwards came away with a rush and shot for goal, but the ball just grazed the post. Both teams had now several runs but nothing resulted. About twenty minutes from the start, Gossland and Cook for the home team took the leather down the field and crossed it to McKenzie who scored the first goal for his side amidst applause. Ten minutes after the Rangers scored a second goal through McKenzie cantering the ball to Cook, who put it between the points. Five minutes after this McKenzie sent the leather across to Pringle, who scored the third goal for the Rangers. On change of ends the Thistle played in better style and occasionally pressed their opponents pretty hard. A good run by their forwards resulted in their registering their first point. The Rangers left wing had then a combined run up the field and managed to secure a fourth goal. Both sides now made determined efforts to increase their record but it was not till about the call of time that the Thistle from a sort of scrimmage, gained their second goal. The match thus resulted in favour of the Rangers by four goals to two. Both sides but especially the forwards of the Rangers showed good dribbling and dodging powers.
