Match Trivia

There were 9500 spectators at Ibrox Park, where these teams met in wet weather. Speirs kicked off, and a promising beginning was made by the home forwards, who were quickly in the vicinity of Muir, Darroch and Jeffrey defended resolutely, and the latter’s earnestness had much to do with Shaw failing to beat Muir from Splendid openings made for him by Smith. Shaw latterly got the better of the custodian after which the Dundee forwards altered their style of play, and Sinclair was frequently called upon. He made one brilliant save from a hard drive by Bell, and McFarlane just failed to get through owing to hesitating in front of goal. Halftime – Rangers 1 goal: Dundee 0. The Rangers did well for a time after the resumption, but Dundee’s string forward play gradually wore down their opponents defence, and after many capital saves, Sinclair was somewhat easily outwitted by McFarlane. It was a splendid struggle to the end after the equaliser, and both goalkeepers got most to do, and did it well. A pleasantly and keenly contested game ended without further scoring. Result – A draw – 1 goal each. Drawings – gate money £224 9s; stand £47; total £271 9s
