Match Trivia
Rangers won the toss, and played with strong sunshine at their back. Paul kicked off for the Harriers who led off with great dash but were repulsed, and the Rangers getting on the ball carried it right down to their opponent’s goal, unfortunately sent it over the line. On the kick-off there was some stiff play in midfield but, chiefly by the exertions of McCreadie, the ball was gradually taken close to the Harriers goal, when a high shot from the centre caused Munro to concede a corner, which came to nothing. A few minutes afterwards however Wyllie scored for the Rangers with a long shot, which might have been saved. The Harriers plated pluckily to equalise, Ward and JR Gow being most prominent, and Reid had to kick out smartly to save his goal. Following upon this each side had runs and counter-runs, and from one of these Bell equalised the score for the Harriers, Reid slipping and falling on the ground as the ball went through. The Rangers secured a second corner, but although the ball was well placed by McCreadie it was sent past. After this the Harriers pressed hardest, but the magnificent defence of Hay and Hendry frustrated all efforts to increase the score. Just at halftime McFarlane scored the second goal for the Rangers with a good shot. At halftime the score was – Rangers 2 goals; Harriers 1 goal. Shortly after the start of the second half Bell had a grand run and scored for the Harriers, but he was judged offside, Paul missed a good chance of equalising, and then a foul was given against the Rangers close on goal. No danger resulted, but the Harriers, who were now having the best of it on more than one occasion, experienced hard lines in not equalising. The Rangers wakened up a bit, and from a mistake made by one of the Harriers backs, one of the Rangers forwards had a clear goal at his mercy, but he shot wildly over the crossbar. There was no further scoring a fairly interesting game ending as follows – Rangers 2 goals; Harriers 1 goal.
