Match Trivia

Played at Hydepark, Springburn. Calderwood set the ball in motion, and in two minutes, John McPherson scored. The Rangers were determined to make up for this and after some tactics equalised. A smart run brought Cowlairs to the visitor’s goal, but McPherson in centring sent the ball behind. The Rangers pressed now and scored. The home team had their turn next, but were not so successful. These shots following hard in turn on each other went behind. Once or twice Allan got away, but was unable to get past McCartney. A corner in favour of the visitors came to nothing. For a time the game assumed a give-and-take form, the home team having a little more of the play than their opponents. From a scrimmage in front of the Rangers citadel matters were again set on equal footing. At Halftime the score was – Cowlairs 2 goals; Rangers 2 goals. On re-starting a foul against McCready saved by heading out. Cowlairs had hard time for a little. Shot after shot was set in but either struck the crossbar or Reid was equal to the occasion. Feeling was very high, and as each successive attack was made on the Ibrox goal the shouts were long and loud. Continuing the pressure, Cowlairs was awarded by Fleming sending in a beauty, which took effect. The game was very fast towards the close, and ended – Cowlairs 3 goals; Rangers 2 goals.
